Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many borders.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that features numerous conveniences in addition to the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
