Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
